Digestive Bitters are a useful herbal treatment to have in your home toolkit. They help with a host of belly issues and the bitter herbs help you digest your food. Many traditional medicine systems focus on digestion for a reason - proper digestion and absorption of your food lead to better health. Learn about the process of making this and other alcohol-based tinctures. Herbs to make your own bitters at home will be provided in this workshop. Bring high proof alcohol to start your bitters at the workshop.

Adding digestive bitters to my gut routine has really helped me with my heartburn and upset stomach. Since they are in liquid form, the relief comes very quickly and I can move on with my life. Once I learned how easy it was to make my own at home, I’ve never been without them!

It is said that bitters to a cocktail are like salt to food. In fact, the original definition of the cocktail included bitters (along with spirits, syrup, or liqueurs). Plus you also get the digestive benefits of the bitter herbs - which is why cocktails are enjoyed before the meal.

Bitters can add that extra special something to a drink that was otherwise just ok. Take your home cocktail game up a notch by making your own bitters at home!

Learn how to make tinctures like these in an interactive workshop on Saturday, November 19th at 1 pm at Pickeyweedz at their new location in Clarks Summit. You’ll be leaving with all the herbs you need to make your own batch at home.

I remember the first time I took an herbal preparation I made myself - a bitters recipe. Unlike cooking, herbal alcohol extractions take weeks before they are fully ready. The date was marked on my calendar with anticipation.

Once it was ready, I took a dropper and placed it into a glass of water, took a sip, and marveled at the complex flavor. The bitter bite was cut with sweetness and I could taste the fruit. Within 5 minutes, my rumbly belly stopped and I knew that I was on to something.

Not only did I have the new found skills to make these preparations, but I was also fueled with new empowerment. What other home preparations can I have on hand to help myself and my family?

This is what started my holistic journey and I’m happy to bring medicine making to you as well.
